The Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes have an affinity with each other that results in a quite remarkable wine (try it and see). A percentage of the Semillon goes into barriques for fermentation to add structure rather than discernable oak flavours. Enjoy it with Salmon, Swordfish or Caesar salad. ABV 13%. IWC Bronze Medal 2007.The Cossack Orchid, illustrated on the front label by acclaimed botanical artist Philippa Nikulinsky, is unique to Western Australia and is found predominantly in the South-West region of the state. A tract of pristine old growth forest has been preserved on the Ferngrove vineyard to provide habitat for such unique native flora. The limited release of Riesling showcases the enormous potential of this variety from the Frankland River region. The 2005 vintage displays classic cool climate varietal aromas of fresh lime and citrus supported by lifted floral characters. These varietal characters follow through to the palate and are balanced by mineral acidity and a fine, long finish. This too good to put in an express chicken recipe. ABV 13% (S).Multi-Buy price for 3 bottles is £38.87
Crystalline ruby red in colour and flushed with the spring-time aromas of seasonal red fruits - cherry, strawberry, raspberry and rose-hip. The winery is in the Geographe region just north of the Margaret River region. Being to the north of MR means it is a warmer climate. In the development of this traditional Graves style wine the winemaker has used barrel fermentation in new and one year old French barriques. The wine is matured for 4 months on yeast lees to give it a rich, creamy texture, which is enhanced by oak complexity.Typical aromas are of lime and citrus with lingering flavours of grapefruit and lemon. This wine, although enjoyable whilst young, will benefit from careful cellaring for 3-5 years. 12.0% ABV.Multi-Buy price for 3 bottles is £46.54
Sourced from low-yielding vines from Pemberton contract growers David and Monica Radomiljac, as well as from the Willow Bridge Geographe vineyard this wine is again an excellent example of Sauvignon Blanc from Western Australia. From the cooler 2006 vintage (we were in WA at that time) this wine shows intense aromas of limes and passionfruit followed by strong flavours of asparagus and citrus. Lingering acidity helps to give the palate balance and poise. Serve chilled, on its own, or with oysters, chicken or quail. ABV 14% (S).Multi-Buy price for 3 bottles is £34.66 equivalent to £11.55 a bottle
The distinctive logo on the Alkoomi label is a depiction of the unusual grass tree Xanthorrhoea Preissii which lives for many hundreds of years in the same gravely soils in which the vines are planted. This wine has an intensely flavoured palate with freshness and vitality that complement and reflect the modern Australian cuisine and lifestyle. ABV 12.5%.Available only by the 12-bottle case. Multi-Buy price for 12 bottles is equivalent to £11.14 per bottle
Citrus, honey and tropical fruit aromas on the nose. The palate senses subdued sugar snap peas and fresh garden herb flavours add weight before the fresh cleansing acidity produces a crisp, dry finish of considerable length. And later there is the feeling of a beguiling creamy mid-palate texture. Now I know this sounds a bit woffly but length and developing flavours are a sign of a good wine that offers substantially more than that in a cheapo bottle. 13.5% ABV. (S).Available only by the 12-bottle case. Multi-Buy price for 12 bottles is equivalent to £20.70 per bottle
Pale straw in colour its bouquet is gently fragrant with spicy oak and floral notes. It is crammed tight with opulent white peach, nectarine and leesy flavours. There is also the characteristc creamy textures of Pierro Chardonnay yet it is tightly structured and coiled around taught racy acidity. It's little wonder that Pierro's Chardonnays are often spoken of in the same breath as those from Leeuwin Estate. ABV 14%.Available only by the 12-bottle case.
